Hi Mama / future friend,
I’m Naomi ~ creative, dreamer, fellow Mama, nature lover, health and wellness advocate, and designer x founder of Obi Kinomi.
Midway through 2012 (in my pre-child life), I had a lightening bolt moment that I needed to pack up my fast-paced Sydney life, and fashion career, and head to sunnier skies ~ where sea, surf, salty hair/skin, smoothies, yoga, nature, creative culture, and (a little more) freedom exist: to the island of Bali.
Setting to work again, I envisioned reviving some of my fondest childhood 90's fashion memorabilia - creating simple tie-dyed beach bags, with elements of leather and refined hardware finishes.
This very relaxed bag brand idea, quickly saw the need to cater for friends who were becoming new parents - who at the time, didn't have many options in terms of functional and stylish nappy bags - so the first Emma Baby Bag was born.
Surprisingly around this same time, the universe threw a little irony/curveball my way, and I learned that I was also to become a Mama.
Life changed instantaneously once my daughter arrived ~ with those great feelings of responsibility, mixed with the knowing that being a Mother would be the biggest challenge, and also the greatest gift in life.
After moving home to Australia, I missed working daily, with the small Balinese families of local dye artisans and tailors, yet our production processes needed to evolve, so that we could provide an even better quality product for our customers.
Continually working towards better sustainability, we ensure the use of non-toxic and low-environmental-impact inks and dyes; the use of natural-only fibres for baby and children's clothing and wares; recycled or eco-conscious fibres for our bags; and working with ethical and fair-trade accredited workplaces only ~ all of which are better for the health and wellness of our Earth, our little babes, and workers.
I’m so happy for you to be joining us on the journey through babyhood and beyond, as we create and share more Obi Kinomi items, and topics of interest with you in mind (on the blog) that we love.
